Garden Making inspires and informs Canada’s gardeners with useful, practical information you can use in your home garden. We serve expert and beginning gardeners — anyone who really wants to know the what, when and how of gardening. Garden Making magazine is published quarterly with new issues released in February, May, August and November. We aspire to be inspiring , so we named our company Inspiring Media Inc. We are an independent, family company based in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont.
Beckie Fox, Editor-in-Chief
Beckie gardens in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., and loves spreading the joy of gardening. A long-time writer and editor, Beckie was on the editorial team of Canadian Gardening magazine for its first decade from its launch in 1990 until becoming its editor from 1999 to 2001 when it was owned by Avid Media. An interest in container gardening evolved into her book, The Potted Garden: Creating a Great Container Garden, published in 2002 by Prentice Hall Canada.
Beckie enjoys speaking at garden clubs, garden centres and home shows in Ontario. She has taught gardening courses at George Brown College and Toronto Botanical Garden, and has studied horticulture through the University of Guelph. For a perspective, you may enjoy knowing how we came to use the Garden Making name.

Gary Hall, Design Director
Gary Hall is a publication art director and designer in Toronto, and an active participant in the design community. For the past four years, he has also taught editorial design at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto. In addition to his role as design director of Garden Making magazine, Gary designs publications for a number of clients. He also played a lead role in the redesign of Maclean’s magazine in 2001, serving as the magazine’s deputy art director for four years.
During his career, Gary’s work has received numerous design and art direction acknowledgements and awards from The Advertising & Design Club of Canada, Applied Arts annual design showcase, The Canadian National Magazine Awards, The Society of Publication Design and The Society of News Design. Gary is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design.
Katherine Fox, Assistant Editor
She also manages our participation in shows where we enjoy meeting so many subscribers and advertisers face to face. For our first three years, to September 2012, Katherine handed handled the sales of advertising for the magazine.

Gwen Dunant, Sales
Advertising sales for Garden Making are handled by Gwen Dunant. She is president of Dunant Consulting and has been in the publishing industry for over 30 years, primarily an advertising sales consultant. Gwen has sold national and retail advertising space for consumer and custom publications and has worked with client publications to develop effective sales tools (such a media kits, rate cards, readership surveys, etc.)
She specializes in helping small to mid-sized magazines reach their sales goals. She has given seminars at Mags U, MagNet and regional associations across Canada. She is on the faculty of the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, Ryerson University. She has played a key role in the development of many professional development programs for Magazines Canada and the Atlantic Magazines Association. She is the author of “A Short Guide to the Development and Use of Sales Tools for Selling Advertising Space in Canadian Magazines” as well as a contributor to “Small Magazines Advertising – Essentials for Publishers and Sales Representatives”.

Michael Fox, Publisher
With over 35 years of publishing experience as a journalist and consumer marketing executive, Michael is one of Canada’s top circulation experts. He retired in 2012 as Senior Vice-President, Circulation & Development, at Rogers Publishing Limited in Toronto to devote his expertise to making sure Garden Making continues to grow its print and digital audiences.
