Garden Making news
GWA is an international non-profit association with more than 1,400 garden communicators as members. The media awards provide public recognition for excellence in gardening-related communications in all media.
The Perennial Plant Association (PPA) in August 2016 recognized Garden Making Editor-in-Chief Beckie Fox with its Garden Media Award at its annual symposium in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. The award distinguishes an individual representing the media including radio, television, photography, newspaper, books, and magazine publishing, etc. whose educational and promotional efforts result in a heightened public awareness of the importance of the perennial plant industry.
Beckie Fox, Editor-in-Chief
Beckie gardens in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., and loves spreading the joy of gardening. A long-time writer and editor, Beckie was on the editorial team of Canadian Gardening magazine for its first decade from its launch in 1990 until becoming its editor from 1999 to 2001 when it was owned by Avid Media. An interest in container gardening evolved into her book, The Potted Garden: Creating a Great Container Garden, published in 2002 by Prentice Hall Canada.
Beckie enjoys speaking at garden clubs, garden centres and home shows in Ontario. She has taught gardening courses at George Brown College and Toronto Botanical Garden, and has studied horticulture through the University of Guelph.
