Early fall is a good time to plant perennials, shrubs and trees. Temperatures are dropping and there’s the possibility of more rain, meaning transplants are less stressed and still have time to settle in before hard frosts arrive. Gardeners are usually less stressed, too, after the flurry of spring and summer tasks. All this adds up to the perfect opportunity to fill in bare corners of your garden. Visiting one of the upcoming plant sales in your area is a good place to start.
Groups such as Master Gardeners Niagara hold plant sales for fundraisers. The plants are either grown by group members or provided as a contribution by local growers.
