Presentation from Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens

November 3, 2021 @ 7:30 pm 9:00 pm

Join Horticultural Manager Karen Achenbach for a virtual tour of the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, a thoughtfully designed garden that brings together history and horticulture to create Seventeen Acres of Paradise.

Historically themed areas tell the story of Nova Scotia settlement from an agricultural and horticultural perspective, showcasing gardening methods, designs, and materials representing key time periods in local history from pre-contact times through to present day.

These historically based core gardens are linked by paths through many other display areas featuring plant collections, garden art, water features, and natural areas. One of the most magnificent of the collections, by any standards, is the Rose Collection which has more than 270 cultivars, from ancient roses like the Apothecary Rose through to modern hybrids including roses of the Canadian Explorer, Parkland and Artist series.

This world-class garden, recognized in 2015 by the Canadian Garden Council as Canada’s Garden of the Year, is located in historic Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, the first permanent European settlement in North America (Port-Royal 1605).
