Get creative! Drop in with your friends and family to this fun afternoon workshop and make a safe home for bees to hang in your garden. Our garden experts will be there to provide info and answer questions. Materials provided. Note: Children 12 and under require parental or guardian supervision.
Participants will receive information about the differences between native bees and honey bees. Specialist and generalist native bee species will be discussed with emphasis on range limitations as well as their food and habitat needs. Bee hotel structures will be given to participants and they can fill them with material provided. Participants will be instructed on placement, care and maintenance so bees stay healthy, and will learn how to collect their nesting materials when needed. Participants will be encouraged to include pollen- and nectar-rich native plants for forage near their bee hotels. At workshop’s end, all participants will have a bee hotel to take home and install in their garden.
