All the Buzz on City Bees (and Wasps): Who they are and What they’re up to
April 18, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The next meeting of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society is on Tuesday, April 18th. The meeting will be held in person at the Johnny Leroux Community Arena (second floor), 10 Warner-Colpitts Lane, Stittsville, at 7:30 pm. If you prefer to attend the meeting on Zoom, please send a request a few days before to sghorticultural@gmail.com and the Zoom link will be sent to you.
Tonight’s topic, All the Buzz on City Bees (and Wasps): Who they are and What they’re up to, is presented by Lydia Wong, a PhD candidate in Biology at the University of Ottawa.
Ottawa is home to over 300 bee and wasp species! Some live underground, others collect wool to line their nests, and still others make their living off of sneaking into the nests of neighbours. Who are these fascinating six-legged fliers and what can we do to make our gardens welcoming to them? Lydia will introduce us to some of our bee and wasp neighbours and discuss tips for pollinator-friendly gardens. She will also share with us her recent research with city bees and wasps.
Wearing a mask is optional during the meeting.
If you are not a member and would like to attend free as a one-time guest, or if you would like to become a member, please send an email to sghorticultural@gmail.com. The annual membership is $15 per person or $25 per family. Please join us for what is sure to be a fascinating evening.
