Making the garden for new plants at Canada Blooms

We take you behind the scenes to see the setup of the Garden Making Plant Walk of Fame, which highlighted 15 new plants at Canada Blooms 2012 in Toronto. Garden Making’s goal is to share ideas to inspire home gardening, and the container garden display was an exercise in bringing the magazine to life for the the many people who visit Canada Blooms.

In this video, produced by Mark Disero, you can see how Catherine Geraats’s design for a sophisticated container garden was implemented using cushioned outdoor flooring by SofSurfaces of Petrolia, Ont., black Chelsea planters from Barracuda in Toronto, self-watering containers made by Lechuza in Germany, LED lighting by SGi Lighting Inc. of Brampton, Ont., and a visually arresting glass fountain provided by Water Arts in Etobicoke, Ont. The team from Bouwmeister Landscaping Ltd. in Stouffville, Ont., put all the pieces together.

Rodger Tschanz at the University of Guelph grew the new plants featured in the garden. Canada Blooms visitors could learn more about the plants on  cards displayed with each plant, written by Editor-in Chief Beckie Fox.
